regua2.jpgPeso da Régua (usually also known as just Régua) is a small city with about 10,000 inhabitants. The city is located at the heart of the Douro region (Unesco World Heritage), where Port Wine is produced, in the right margin of Douro River and surrounded by mountains. The main activity of the whole region is the production of wine, but there are several shops and services in Régua. The city is also an important port for cruises in the Douro River and the number of tourists has been increasing over this decade. A significant regua1.jpgportion of the visitors come in September, during the grape-gathering season and there are several wine producers that organize visits to their vineyards and cellars, some of them offering the possibility to participate in production activities.
Régua is approximately 100 km distant from Porto and is served by a network of roads and highways that provide good connections to the rest of the country and Spain. It also has a railway station that provides access for people arriving in the nearest international airport, located in Porto.
Vinhas do Douro The northeast of Portugal has an excellent and varied gastronomy that include fine meals prepared with veal, pork, lamb, smoked sausages, salads and desserts, accompanied by the finest Portuguese wines. Temperatures in September can range from 15 ºC to 30 ºC.
